It's been a minute since we've had a #HowTheyDoDapper feature, and we are so excited to bring it back in ~style~ with Jeff Petty!

We knew we would like Jeff before we even knew him - he loves a bow tie, what's not to like? Our friendship started when a good personal friend of ours introduced him to the brand, and with Jeff’s avid love for bow ties, we were sure to become fast friends. Fast forward two years and Jeff has collected almost every C+L bow! But it isn’t his love of our ties that drew us in, it's his love for life and his love for making other peoples lives better. Now we can get behind that!

It's a Saturday! What are you doing? 

Shopping at the local farmers market with my girlfriend, going to a museum, the theatre, watching a film or dining with friends.

We know you teach and are a docent . . . please tell us more about that. They both are about giving back and sharing knowledge, what draws you to that work and what is your favorite part about it? 

I retired as a high school principal in 2004, because of my love of education and learning, I  “fill in” as a principal wherever is needed within the district. After my wife passed away, I had to keep my mind busy and became a docent at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, researching the collections and designing tours, not only of the collections, but for special exhibitions as well, which are offered to the public.          

Your ultimate dapper icon: Probably someone like Tom Ford or anyone else with a sense of style and/or some edginess. 

It's quitting time on any given day. What are you sipping on?

I’m not a big drinker, but my drink of choice is a very cold, very dry martini, straight up with a lemon twist.

You’re sitting down to play your favorite album, who are you putting on the turntable? Is there a special memory or emotion connected with that artist or album? 

I like all kinds of music from classical to contemporary. Often, I hear something that immediately reminds me of my wife…that’s pretty emotional. Songs or music we loved as a couple.

Tell us, what makes you feel dapper?

I’m quite comfortable in my own skin and like to be a little daring when I get dressed. I often buy things that are definitely unusual, have a sense of style and are somewhat edgy.
