In early 2020 we were thrilled to learn of a new bar opening in our neighborhood. East Nashville is known for a robust cocktail scene but this place was close to the Clifton+Leopold studio and rumor was the inside was going to be a treat to see.
A month later we would all be living, working, and confined to our homes. We were certain the chances of Henry James opening were slim. The thought of opening a new restaurant or bar during the pandemic seemed crazy. Almost as crazy as us launching Clifton+Leopold.
To our surprise and extreme accolade Henry James would open and on our first visit we would meet one of the forces behind the vision, Rachel Dancer.
Over the last two years we've celebrated, held working sessions, and entertained guests of the brand with one of Rachel's special cocktails. All the while we were learning more about what brought her to Nashville, her time in Austin, and what kept her and the whole Henry James team upbeat and hopeful through some pretty doubtful times. Most importantly we became friends (seriously, get to know your barkeep, they're always writing the best stories).
When Henry James gave us the green light to shoot the Re-Define capsule there this spring we couldn't have been happier . . .except when Rachel said "yes" to being part of the shoot.
Find me looking dapper in: raised in Taylorville, IL, currently in Nashville, TN
Tell us a little bit about the story that you're writing in your C+L? I currently bartend at Henry James on the East Side of Nashville. I also like to be involved in the local and national music scene. Live music is what keeps me going most days, and my dog, Vega.
What piece from the Re-Define collection is at the top of your list? I really love the elephant print scarf [Galápagos]. I also want to buy the floral tie[Lingua] for everyone I know. What a statement piece!
What is your favorite part of the Spring season? My favorite part of spring is all of the wildflowers that pop up everywhere. I used to live in Texas, and blue bonnet season is everything!
Any fun memories from the shoot day that you can share? We had such a good time shooting for Re-Define. My favorite part was the end of the shoot when everyone was starting to be silly and authentic. We popped some GH Mumm, put Shania Twain on the jukebox, and the magic shots started to happen.
What are your tips for looking fabulous in photos (clearly, you have it down!) I always feel like my best shots on film are the candid shots. I am not a professional model, so my posed shots look silly to me. I worked with some absolute professionals that day, and it was inspiring to watch! Modeling is not easy.
When you're not modeling, what are you up to? When I'm not modeling for C+L you can find me in the woods hiking or kayaking to a waterfall. I love being outside in any form or fashion.
How are you Re-defining yourself in 2022? I am re-defining the way I do business in 2022. I have always wanted to be a business owner, and I am working towards achieving that goal.
